Pink Salt for Body, Mind and Spirithimalayan_salt

What is Pink Salt?

This may be a new one to you! And even if it’s not, keep reading. Because I am going to give you some fascinating info on why you will want to Think Pink when it comes to salt for body, mind and spirit.

Where does pink salt come from?

Pink salt is from the Himalayan mountains that span through China, Nepal, Myanmar, Pakistan, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and India. Today it is hand-harvested.

A very long time ago sea salt beds formed from the primordial ocean, later buried within what is now the Himalayan mountain range. These salt beds were insulated by lava, snow and ice, preserving the salt in such a way that it is now believed to be the purest salt to be found on the planet.

So, why is pink salt pink?

These salts are rich in a multitude of minerals including iron-oxide which lend the varying shades of pink to the salt.

What’s so great about pink salt?

The minerals in the pink salt work with the sodium to deliver balancing nutritional elements to the body as well as support a peaceful mind and spirit.

There are over 80 minerals found in Himalayan pink salt including trace minerals such as bicarbonate, borate, bromide, calcium, fluoride, potassium, magnesium, sulphate, strontium with magnesium and calcium leading the pack in terms of quantity percentages.

All of these minerals in Himalayan pink salt may benefit a body in many ways. They may do the following (but always check with YOUR doctor if you have special medical conditions!):

  • Help balance electrolytes
  • Support strong bones
  • Prevent muscle cramping
  • Support thyroid health
  • Increases hydration
  • Regulate water content both inside and outside of cells
  • Balance pH (alkaline/acidity) in the body
  • Support flushing of toxins
  • Support health metabolism
  • Assist with intestinal absorption of nutrients
  • Support healthy circulation
  • Help soothe eczema and psoriasis

Why Pink Salt over Table Salt or Sea Salt?

The white salt found on tables all over America is derived by processing at such high heat levels (like 1200°F) and then bleached destroying all of the naturally occurring minerals and … well… has added bleach. Blech. Then they add anti-caking elements and synthetic iodine.

Technically, pink salt is sea salt. But the “sea” it originated from was primordial – millions of years old – dried up, reserved under lava, snow and ice so all of the nutritional benefits are there and none of the pollutants in our seas and oceans and air today.

Much of the sea salt you find commercially is derived from polluted ocean sources.

Benefits of Pink Salt for Body, Mind and Spirit

Kitchen and Table

Well, obviously, for nutrition sake, you will want to replace all sources of salt in your kitchen with pink salt for recipes and added taste to replenish and support your body with the vast number of minerals in pink salt as listed above.

Cleaning Surfaces

Himalayan salt is naturally anti-microbial. You can dissolve some pink salt in purified water with a bit of baking soda and some lemon and tea tree essential oils and you have a terrific cleaning agent for your counter tops, toilets and sinks. This is a healthy, non-toxic addition to your green-cleaning regimen.

Bath Time

Add ¼ cup of pink salt to your bath regularly. The minerals stimulate circulation and soothe sore muscles while softening your skin and soothing itchy skin to boot. It is believed that adding pink salt to your bath for a nice soak provides a therapeutic experience for mind, body and spirit. The minerals help relax your muscles, pull toxins out of the body and provide soothing for your mind and spirit. A pink salt bath before bed may help you sleep more deeply. Add a few drops of lavender oil to your pink salt bath and you’re assured to be deeply relaxed for bedtime.
